Vision, Mission & Values

Our Vision. Our Way. The principles and purpose that guide everything FNEHA does.

Our vision

Our Vision. Our Way.

We are an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisation focused on building our vision our way. We lead from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander deep knowledge and lived experience to influence and engage our collective obligations across the health community.

Our mission

Working nationally for equitable eye health

Working nationally, we partner with the sector to drive equitable change in eye health and vision care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. All our work has a life course view to improving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health, so that in all generations, we are healthy and flourishing.

Our purpose

Dedicated to achieving equity

FNEHA is dedicated to achieving equity in eye health and vision outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Established to strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership and voice across the eye health system, FNEHA works to ensure that community priorities, cultural authority and self-determination shape eye care policy, programs and investment.

Our values

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people lead our work. Community voice, lived experience and cultural authority are at the centre of everything we do.

Community control

We believe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities must have authority over the health services and systems that affect them.

Self-determination

We uphold the right of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to determine their own futures and to lead the decisions that shape their health and wellbeing.

Cultural safety

We are committed to culturally safe ways of working — in our organisation, in our partnerships and in the systems we seek to reform.

Equity

We are committed to eliminating avoidable vision loss and ensuring every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person has access to high-quality, equitable eye care.

Evidence and accountability

Our work is grounded in evidence, community-defined outcomes and accountability to the communities we serve.
