CTST — Diabetes eye care

Check Today, See Tomorrow

Health promotion resources to support awareness of diabetes eye care and promote the importance of yearly eye checks for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with diabetes.

In June 2026, stewardship for the CTST resource suite transitioned from Minum Barreng: Indigenous Eye Health Unit to the First Nations Eye Health Alliance (FNEHA), supporting ongoing access to these resources for communities, health services and practitioners across Australia and aligning with FNEHA's commitment to First Nations leadership, community-led approaches and improved eye health outcomes.

Cultural Warning

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that these resources may contain images, voices and names of people who have died.

About Check Today, See Tomorrow

Check Today, See Tomorrow (CTST) was developed in response to clearly identified gaps, community need and sector priorities in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health. Evidence shows lower rates of regular eye checks and diabetes eye checks, later detection of diabetic retinopathy, and higher rates of preventable vision loss and blindness.

Diabetes is a major cause of vision loss and blindness for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Up to 98% of vision loss and blindness from diabetes is preventable with early detection and follow-up treatment. Everyone with diabetes is at risk of going blind. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with diabetes require a yearly eye check to reduce their risk of vision loss and blindness.

Stewardship transition — June 2026

In June 2026, stewardship for the CTST resource suite transitioned from Minum Barreng: Indigenous Eye Health Unit to the First Nations Eye Health Alliance (FNEHA), supporting ongoing access to these resources for communities, health services and practitioners across Australia and aligning with FNEHA's commitment to First Nations leadership, community-led approaches and improved eye health outcomes.
