Stronger Together: Partners in Eye Health

Our Partners: Collaboration with Purpose

At the First Nations Eye Health Alliance, we believe that strong, meaningful partnerships are central to achieving our vision of improving eye health and vision care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We are proud to align with partners who share our commitment to health equity, self-determination, and the well-being of our communities.

Aligning with Our Partners

Our partnerships are built on a foundation of mutual respect, shared values, and a collective responsibility to create positive change. Together, we are working to strengthen the national health landscape, ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices, perspectives, and leadership are at the forefront of eye health initiatives.

We seek partners who:

  • Respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures: Recognising and honouring traditional and contemporary knowledge systems.
  • Value self-determination: Supporting initiatives that empower our communities to take the lead in developing and delivering health solutions.
  • Commit to health equity: Working collaboratively to address the systemic barriers that prevent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from accessing the eye care services they need.
  • Share our vision for change: Aligning with our mission to stop preventable vision loss and blindness through innovative, community-driven approaches.

What We Ask for in Partnerships

When forming partnerships, we look for organisations that are ready to engage in reciprocal, meaningful relationships.

We ask our partners to:

  • Commit to cultural safety: Ensure that all interactions and initiatives are respectful and culturally responsive to the needs and perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Support long-term, sustainable outcomes: Collaborate with us to co-design solutions that are sustainable, scalable, and focused on long-term improvements in eye health.
  • Embrace shared accountability: Work with us transparently, reporting on progress and sharing in the responsibility for achieving positive health outcomes.
  • Contribute to self-determined health leadership: Strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership in health by supporting workforce development, research, and capacity building within our communities.

Stronger Together

By partnering with the First Nations Eye Health Alliance, you join a growing movement to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia can access equitable, high-quality eye health and vision care services. The action supports the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians to be self-determined by making decisions on matters that affect their lives and the lives of their communities.  Our partners acknowledge that we are community-led and driven, grounded in lived experience, deep cultural knowledge, and leadership. Together, we are building a healthier, more empowered future for our communities. Our Vision, Our Way.

How to become a partner of FNEHA?

The first step to becoming a partner of the First Nations Eye Health Alliance (FNEHA) is by first becoming a Friend of the Alliance. Friends of FNEHA are non-Indigenous individuals and organisations who share a commitment to our strategic objectives, values, and core mission. By becoming a Friend, you’re showing your dedication to supporting the Alliance and its vision to improve eye health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia. OUR PARTNERS

Fred Hollows Foundation

“The Foundation is proud to partner with the First Nations Eye Health Alliance to elevate the voice of community control and advocacy to promote and improve eye health access and services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community” Vincent Bin Dol, Country Director - Indigenous Australia Program Fred Hollows Foundation

The Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) and The First Nations Eye Health Alliance (FNEHA) agree to working in partnership to deliver bold approaches to creating systemic change across the eye health sector.

We recognise that working together to align our strategies, visions and goals will drive innovation and seek to influence the rest of the sector to be brave and join us as we embark on a new collaboration that continues the push for self-determination, community control and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership and decision-making. We strive to be seen and heard as a strong collective working towards the same end goal – Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander eye health in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander hands to reduce the disparity in eye health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This partnership brings many benefits but importantly recognises the milestone of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander led eye health peak that was born from the collective voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals around the nation.  This is a true display of self-determination and creates further opportunities for partnering with other key eye health stakeholders that seek to uphold their commitments to allyship and self-determination.
